Baptism
“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church 1512
Catholic families are encouraged to baptize their children soon after birth. However, the Sacrament of Baptism can be received at any age. Whether a person is baptized as an infant or as an adult, Baptism is the initial way a person experiences the embrace and mercy of our loving God.
To celebrate an infant baptism, parents need to attend a pre-Baptism Class if they have not done so within the last 5 years.
Baptisms are scheduled on Sundays, usually following the 11:30 AM Mass. A Saturday may be considered if the priests/deacon and Church are available. Please call the parish office to schedule all Baptisms.
If you or your child wish to be baptized, but are not an infant, contact the parish and we can explain the process of Rite of Christian Initiation for Children and Adults.
If you have any questions about Baptisms, please call Katherine at the parish office. 440-234-6830 x100
What is a Baptism Class?
The Diocese of Cleveland requires any parent wishing to have their child to be baptized to attend a short class to explain the sacrament and requirements of the child’s parents and godparents. This is required only if this is your first child or you have not taken the class within the last 5 years. The class is offered quarterly at our parish, but can be taken at any Catholic parish.
Baptism Classes at Saint Adalbert are currently taking place individually.
